About the Directors

Dr Gabrielle Jenkin Research Director

I am a social scientist with expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research. I set up Boutique Insights to offer high-quality, innovative, bespoke research and evaluation. 

Recent work has focused on mental health, suicide research, analysis of coronial data, acute mental health care services, and psycho-social stresses in the workplace.

With 25 + years applied research experience I have led many significant projects, including qualitative interview-based research, media and interest group analyses, suicide prevention evaluations, mental health services research, quantitative and qualitative analyses of multiple government agency datasets and files, panel surveys, gender and cultural analyses and transdisciplinary research. I have published more than 50 peer reviewed articles and 30 technical reports and presented research findings to the media, the community and conferences internationally.

Director/Deputy Director, Suicide and Mental Health Research Group, University of Otago Wellington (2014-2021).

Marsden Fund Award Recipient (2017): Honored by the Royal Society of New Zealand for a groundbreaking study on the architectural, therapeutic, and social environments of mental health facilities in New Zealand. 

Expert Advisor: Served on the New Zealand National Health and Disability Ethics Committee, contributing to critical discussions around the ethical conduct of research and assessment of the highest level ethics applications.

  • Research Associate Professor, University of Otago Wellington: Engaged in advanced research within the fields of mental health and social sciences.

  • Grant Assessor: Serving as a Grant Assessor for the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, evaluating key research proposals.

  • Member, Special Interest Group Suicide and the Workplace: Actively involved with the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), focusing on the intersection of suicide and occupational health.

Trevor Woodburn Director

Trevor Woodburn is a seasoned Human Resources Practitioner and is a non-executive Director who brings a wealth of experience across both public and private sector organisations, to the research process. His diverse background spans industries such as software development, horticulture, food manufacturing, and transport and construction, equipping him with a broad understanding of human behaviour in various contexts.

Trevor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources. This educational foundation, combined with his professional expertise, allows him to challenge and enrich the research process from multiple perspectives, ensuring a comprehensive approach to every project.
